Valmay Moran has been painting and drawing most of her life, influenced by her father Arnold Laloli and sisters, who are also artists.

Most of her art training was at the Special Art class at Hamilton Technical College. (Now Fraser High School)  In the 1970’s Valmay started selling many of her oil paintings under the name of Valmay Laloli.  Valmay recently turned to watercolour as the preferred medium, but loves to dabble in other paint media. Valmay is now painting under her married name of Valmay Moran.

In 2001 Valmay opened her own gallery at Hamilton East, New Zealand and it was at that time too that she joined with eighteen other artists on the Hamilton Art Trail.

The love of Hamilton and the lack of art depicting Hamilton landscapes inspired Valmay to create a large range of Hamilton scenes. Valmay is also well known for portraits of people and their pets. Commissioned work frequently includes buildings.  Melow Manor is just one of many buildings that Valmay has painted. Contemporary landscapes from throughout New Zealand are also available.

A collection of old Hamilton postcards was the beginning of an historical interest in Hamilton.  Valmay has brought to life these postcard images through watercolour and has created greeting cards with popular reprints.

Valmay’s other interests include family history and home renovation.  Valmay has written a book on the Flowerday – Hansen families, who were the first white settlers in New Zealand. And is currently writing a book on the Barnard family of Thaxted, Essex, England.  The Laloli family from Switzerland is also part of her research.
