Uniclear News

UNICLEAR LEADS INDUSTRY TRAINING

Uniclear staff are at the present involved with the BCITO in the development of a professional qualification for concrete workers, which will be operated through National Training Organization, and lead to a nationally recognized qualification.

The input of Uniclear Tanks, has ensured that for the first time people will be able to gain a recognized qualification in Tank Building.

We are also working with OSH, ACC and ‘Safe and Well’ to deliver local health and safety initiatives, and the New Zealand Concrete Tank manufacturers Association with training initiatives to help ensure our staff are not only safe, but also have the best possible skills to ensure our customers are guaranteed the best possible product … A product we are proud of and one you can rely on.

With very little in the way of training currently available (other than our own extensive in house training programme) staff members seldom have the opportunity to celebrate the recognition of their peers, however our staff members, Dayne Radermakers, Tawhiti Hogg, Cameron Ronowicz and Clive Severinsen, all successfully completed their OSH Certification on a recent Forklift Training Course, and are pictured here, enjoying their moment of glory. The successful completion of the course now means that once again all Uniclear staff hold current OSH Certification.

All new staff members are required to undertake training and hold OSH Certification as soon as practicable after joining the company.

QUALITY PRODUCTS AND SERVICE SEE DEMAND SOAR

The consistent high quality of products and service delivered by Uniclear has seen demand continue to soar. With 130 tanks currently on order and a further 300 plus already scheduled, success certainly is leading to success.

To cater for the increasing demand for Uniclear Tanks we have already expanded our team, earlier in the year, taking on three new members of staff. However we are delighted to welcome onboard Richard Birch, who will soon be joining our staff.

Richard joins us with a background in dairy farming, including extensive work with water tanks and systems. We look forward to Richard’s arrival, which will give a real family feel to the company. Richard is brother to our longest serving employee and Foreman, Daryl Rankin.

HI VIS FOR HIGH PROFILE

We have already invested in uniforms for our Keith Street staff.

The new HI VIS singlets, T-shirts and jackets not only give us a sense of team unity, but also form part of our improved Health and Safety Protocols.

The design, selected by the staff themselves should help ensure we wear uniforms 100 per cent of the time. Sorry to all the ladies who will be disappointed not to be able to see Dayne’s bare chest as they stroll down Keith Street.

He has however agreed to offer private showing for all interested parties (as has everyone else). He tells me he is expecting high demand!

Our now not so motley crew needed no second invitation to pose for the camera, however it took a while to get things just right, and they broke camera before we did!

Don’t worry, your tank prices won’t go up! However you will need to wait until the next exciting installment of Uniclear News to see the whole crew in wonderful Technicolour! Instead, we have Lloyd (Company Director) posing in his new uniform.

Sorry to disappoint you, Uniclear only offer our uniform to staff members. Despite several approaches from international fashion houses we have decided to stay focused on the tank building business.

PAINTBALL TRIUMPH

As part of our team building, and funded by the Uniclear Social Fund, several members of staff went on a paint ball excursion to Hamatangi. We extended an invitation to our sister company Clearflow and challenged them to combat. Apparently ‘Sister Company’ is the correct term, as I’m told ‘They fought like a bunch of girls.’ The quote came from several of the victorious Uniclear warriors. Clearflow survivors were asked to comment on their routing, but were overcome by emotion and paint fumes.

Rumors that former Uniclear employee and Special Forces veteran Dave Jones was helicoptered into the combat zone prior to the commencement of operations in an audacious outflanking maneuver are completely unfounded. Field Marshal Eel Rankin would only comment on the bravery of his men, the ultimate sacrifice of those who did not return and the magnitude of a victory that guaranteed freedom for everyone (to have a few beers after work).

SPIDERMAN CRINGES AS UNICLEAR HITS THE WEB!

In the week that Spiderman 3 hit the cinemas, Uniclear was also making a splash on the web! Unlike the tired trilogy however, it was Uniclear’s debut. Our address is www.uniclear.co.nz however we have been experiencing some problems accessing the site through our domain name at the moment. The site is powered by yellow pages and you can gain access through the yellow pages search. You can also access us through the Everything Rural website, or simply google ‘uniclear’ and search New Zealand pages.

We are delighted to see that we are getting a high profile on search engines and a lot of hits on our site.

Why not take a look and see what all the fuss is about … the Uniclear website of course … not overgrown cartoon character in tights.

UNICLEAR PRODUCTION FACILITY IN MIDST OF OVERHAUL

The Uniclear yard is in the midst of the biggest overhaul since the company came into existence.

The site office now comprises of a dedicated office with its own separate access, toilet and staff room. The building has undergone extension to allow covered protection and storage outside. The power tool area will also be receiving a roof, (when our builder remembers our address!)

We are awaiting arrival of a mobile shelter to help us ensure the weather doesn’t affect our ability to produce water tanks. The shelter is the first of two which will ultimately adorn the premises.

Plans are also afoot, or should I say being drawn up, to concrete the whole production area, which involves the creation of a further water tank pad, a dedicated pod production area and additional storage. It will also ensure our systems that protect the environment are state of the art.

The overhaul will ensure that Uniclear is at the forefront of tank manufacture, not only with regard to our products but also our environment.

As our mission statement says, “we strive to produce the best quality concrete tanks to look after your water needs and the environment’ and at Uniclear we deliver on our promises.

CONGRATULATIONS

Uniclear plasterer Paul and his partner Karen celebrated the birth of their first child, Serenity Lynette Chapman on the 14th of March. Serenity arrived early and with a birth weight of only 4lb 9oz, spent two weeks in neo natal care.

Serenity was expected to spend up to three months in hospital, but has been home for two months now and is doing well, weighing in at 9lb 5oz.

Doting father Paul is pictured here holding his beautiful baby daughter. Good job she looks more like Mum than you Paul!

Paul took parental leave to look after his new family, but is now back at work. I have to admit the odd morning he looks like he’s not had much sleep, but he tells me he gets more sleep as a Dad than as the party animal he used to be. I don’t think I want to know about that!!!

Congratulations Paul and Karen, and welcome to Serenity, I hear she already uses a hawk and trowel quite well!

PROMOTION FOR UNICLEAR STALWART

Uniclear’s longest serving employee Darrel Rankin has earned promotion to Foreman. ‘Darrel has worked exceptionally hard and deserves his promotion’ according to Managing Director Sean Lynch.

Darrel has worked for the company for a number of years. He has a good work ethic and knows every aspect of our production. He is the perfect person to be in charge of quality control, and is capable of turning his hand to whatever needs doing to ensure we not only produce a high quality product, but also meet production deadlines for our clients.

We are now proud that we have opportunities for all our staff to develop themselves professionally and a pathway for them to follow to progress with a real career within the company.

HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

At Uniclear, we want to be leaders, not just in tank production but in every aspect of our business: including a production, staff development and of course relationships with partners.

We have been working hard to improve our health and safety protocols, both for our own workforce and employees and contactors of our partner companies.

As such it is vital that anyone who comes onsite, obeys the safety protocols which are there for everyone’s safety.

  • Cars must be parked in the visitor car park.
  • Trucks must park temporarily by the side of the office.
  • All visitors must visit the office and sign the visitor’s book.
  • All visitors must sign out when leaving.
  • All visitors must wear HI VIS clothing while onsite, this can be your own, otherwise vests and jackets will be provided.
  • All visitors need to be aware that forklifts and delivery trucks operate in the area.

We thank you for your patience and understanding with these safety protocols.

OFFICE CLOSURE

Please note that the office will be closed from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm on Thursdays. Should you ring during that time an answer phone service will be in operation.
