The team at Sunhaven, who specialise in continuing care for people with Dementia right through to Private Hospital level of care, are dedicated to ensuring that our resident's needs are fulfilled. We are continually improving the quality of care by providing ongoing staff training and visits to other specialised homes for dementia around the country. Our facility is purpose built and fully sprinklered with smoke detectors throughout.

Recreation

Recreation and diversional therapy are an important part of life for residents at Sunhaven. It is important to us, at Sunhaven, that our residents retain their dignity and freedom of choice, so although they are all encouraged to take part in an activity, they still have the right to say no. Outings, motivational and diversional therapy as well as entertainment are part of our daily routine at Sunhaven. Sunhaven offers large landscaped gardens, which are secure, and provide residents with a tranquil setting that they are free to wander in and enjoy at any time. The building is designed in such a way that most rooms have ranchsliders, We also have a family room for those people who wish to spend a relaxing private time with their loved one away from others.

Meals

Sunhaven is unique in that our residents do not have to conform to set times for meals, going to bed etc. Hence, nutritious meals are provided around the clock and individual diets and desires are catered for, so that our resident never misses the opportunity of participating in a meal even if they choose to stay asleep until midday or get up at 5:00 am or want their dinner at midnight. They are free to have their meals in their rooms or in the lounge if they choose. Daily home baking is provided and you are welcome to participate in a snack or a meal with your loved one.

Household Services

We have specialised staff for laundry, household cleaning and cooking. Therefore giving our caregivers the opportunity to concentrate on our residents individual needs and not the daily household chores.

Nursing Cares

A Registered Nurse is on duty 24 hours around the clock. Our Registered Nurse's are dedicated to caring for people with dementia, as are our caregivers, and we provide individual holistic care.

We pride ourselves in having some of the best trained and dedicated staff in Taranaki.

Our home's GP visits on a weekly basis so changes in resident's medical needs are diagnosed quickly and we have a monthly visit by a specialist psycho geriatrician and a podiatrist.

Ongoing Support

At the time of the decision to put your family member into care can be stressful. The transition from home to full time care can be very upsetting to the family but often less so for a person who has dementia. We find that people with dementia get on surprisingly well together and Sunhaven offers them the security with the open space that they tend to need. We are available to talk to you at any time you are feeling in need of comfort and reassurance about your loved one's care and needs. Visitors are welcome at any time, and are welcome to participate in our recreation and entertainment program.
