The Motor Trade Association Inc. (MTA) was founded in 1917 in Feilding, as an advocate for professionals in the Motor Industry. As New Zealand’s largest trade association, its mission today is to provide leadership and services to assist MTA businesses to provide professional service to their customers.
MTA as a brand is well recognised and respected as a symbol of reliability in the community, and as such plays a strong role protecting the interests of its members customers – the motoring public.
Representing the largest sector in the motor industry, MTA members are identified as those motor industry professionals who deliver quality products and services.
Membership of the MTA is voluntary, and a National Office in Wellington supports over 4000 members, who make up the Association, and 11 Business Development Managers based around the country. There are 34 Branches through out New Zealand, and each has its own Committee structure with a Branch President and Secretary. The Board of Directors is elected by the general membership and provides strategic direction for the Association.
The Association has no political affiliations but represents the interests of the industry as a whole. Membership is made up of a variety of types of businesses including general repairers, service stations, vehicle dealers, automotive electricians, dismantlers, specialists in alternative fuels, brakes, outdoor power equipment upholstery, detailing and salvage.
Like most industries the motor trade is changing rapidly technological advancements in the vehicles we drive, such as ABS Brakes and Air Bags, are ensuring that technicians in all aspects of the trade are constantly up skilling.
A strong commitment to industry training sees the MTA co-ordinate regular programmes covering both technical and business topics, including up to date information concerning advances in technology and business in general, so they are better able to service their customers – New Zealand’s motoring public.
