McDowall Print Ltd.- a company profile
McDowall Print Ltd., one of Southland's most successful business enterprises, commenced business in 1984 utilising plant and equipment purchased from the former Whitcoulls printing division in Invercargill.

Since those early days, McDowall print has gone from strength to strength, with staff numbers doubling and a client base that is New Zealand-wide. In 1988 a roll-to-roll labelling machine was purchased to cater for a niche which existed in the south and that segment of the business now services clients nationwide.

The company quickly outgrew the original premises and moved in 1989 to a new, spacious location in Yarrow Street, Invercargill where they are presently based.

Product examples
The illustration shows some selected examples of printed material produced for the wide cross-section of clients serviced by McDowall Print. Each assignment can be handled from initial brief to printed product and sophisticated computer technology is used in all areas of production by McDowall's skilled and experienced staff and trades people.

Design and technology
McDowall Print offers a complete design and artwork service to clients and believe that creativity is not just concerned with bright ideas! It is also expressed in good design - design which communicates simply and effectively to sell and market products or services.

Technology at McDowall Print is all-important - the better the tools, the better the job. The latest computer technology is utilised in all facets of the company's printing operations and personnel are skilled and experienced in its use.

Labelling
McDowall's roll-to-roll labelling machine is unique to Southland and produces self-adhesive labels in varying shapes and sizes to a maximum of four colours. End-uses include labels for plastic bags, film or pottles; these can be perforated, punched and laminated.

Output includes printed labels for ongoing computer generation by retailers such as pharmacies, where further label information is required.

Commercial printing
A complete, in-house commercial printing service is available from McDowall Print. They specialise in all types of stationery from corporate and business papers to order forms and receipt books. They also handle full colour calendars, leaflets, brochures, annual reports etc. Ancillary services include die-cutting, laminating, spiral binding and indexing.

Overprinting of wedding, bereavement and personal cards is also available.

Computerised management
McDowall Print utilise the latest technology to control production and costings. The shop-floor management and job-planning computer programs both eliminate manual timesheets and produce true, accurate costings of a job at any stage in its production.

Stock levels of paper and card are continually monitored by this system and rush assignments or unscheduled operations can be more easily assimilated into overall production schedules.
