  Accommodation

Come and stay with us!

In response to ongoing requests from people who ask if they can stay overnight, we have created three affordable family friendly rooms with bunks.

 Why?

Remember the days when you played outside, explored your neighbourhood and made your own fun?

Our trekkers have been telling us how rare it is now to have access to the countryside and how their kids don’t get the experiences that many parents took for granted. We would like to offer the opportunity for families to experience first hand a real slice of New Zealand countryside.

We invite you to enjoy a peaceful night or two in the county away from the hustle and bustle of town and work. Come and recharge your batteries, refresh your mind and take the time to remember what life is really all about.

Come and show your kids there is life beyond the trappings of playstations, gameboys, Xboxes, cell phones, shopping malls, internet surfing, traffic jams, and the confines of a quarter acre section

What is there to do?

Here are some ideas for a parents retreat or family fun.

  • When you stay overnight you have free use of the canoes on our lake at any time
  • Take a picnic lunch and eat it in a canoe on the lake
  • Bring your mountain bikes and explore the hills and tracks
  • Get up early and walk down to the milking shed to watch or take part in the daily milking routine
  • Drive down and park at the horse arena and follow the track on foot up to the top of our main hill (20 minutes) where you have a view over the Waikato basin. Watch the sun set from the top of the hill, and see the lights come on over Hamilton, Ohaupo, Te Awamutu and Cambridge
  • Take a picnic lunch and eat it in the middle of a paddock with the cows or horses
  • Sit in peace and quiet on the deck and read your favourite book or just relax in the sun
  • Swim in the creek
  • Go for a leisurely walk and explore the farm, follow the tracks or go across the paddocks
  • Go eeling in the creek
  • Just sit quietly and take in the fresh air and views from the house
  • Take a grooming brush and a few apples and go for a walk to find our trekking horses
  • Find a tree to climb
  • Include a horse trek (advance booking usually required)

While we encourage you to get outside and enjoy the hills, bush, animals and farm activities we understand that the comforts of home are important too.

You are welcome to relax in the lounge, light an open fire, listen to music or enjoy watching Sky TV. We have a computer with internet access so if needed you can check your emails.

Since this is new to us and it is a working farm, your feedback on what you would like from us is appreciated.

What is there to eat?

We can offer a basic range of inexpensive food options.

If our offerings don’t suit then you are only 8-15 minutes drive from a wide range of taverns, restaurants and takeaways in Whatawhata, Pirongia, Te Awamutu and Hamilton or you can go a bit further to sample the delights of Raglan.

What to bring and wear

  • Gumboots
  • Torch
  • Raincoat
  • Old clothes
  • Winter – warm jersey, hat, scarf, gloves
  • Summer – swimming gear

Safety

All farmland contains multiple hazards so we ask our visitors to be alert and take personal responsibility for their own safety. There are ditches, ponds, flowing creeks, electric fences, vehicles, animals, farm equipment, trees etc.

Parents are required to supervise their children and be responsible for their safety at all times. We do not provide a babysitting service.
