Opened in March 2001, Kensington Hospital was the realisation of many of Northland’s general practitioners, surgeons, medical specialists and nurses, to provide a modern, private healthcare facility for the people of Northland.

The hospital was a major development for healthcare services in Northland, enabling the delivery of a broad range of private surgical services within the Northland region itself. No longer will Northland patients need to travel to Auckland to be accommodated in a modern facility. Our vision is to consistently offer our patients the very best in care, and to complement the public health services already available throughout the Northland region. After rigorous scrutiny of the hospital and its systems, Kensington Hospital attained full certification and achieved ACC tertiary compliance in 2003.

The project took a number of years to come to fruition. A multitude of sites and design options were considered for the new private facility, prior to confirming the Kensington Avenue site. Once the site was secured, a very detailed and considered approach was taken for the planning of the new facility. Input was obtained from all the interested parties, and the end result is that a facility was constructed which we know will meet the needs of the private health sector for many years to come.
