Dr Viv Arkinstall

Dr Viv Arkinstall has been able to balance the hours she spends working as a GP at Primecare, with the demands of being a mother, raising two young girls. She works four days a week, from Monday to Thursday.

Viv entered general practice in Whangarei in 1987 and was the first full-time GP at Primecare when the centre opened in 1989. She continued working at Primecare for 11 years, then joined the Whau Valley Medical Centre. The merger of Whau Valley Medical Centre with Primecare created an opportunity for Viv to return to the Kensington Premises.

Viv has always taken a special interest in the field of women's health, and enjoys child and youth medicine.

Dr David Bawden

David Bawden was born in the Hokianga, and has been a GP in Whangarei since 1985, initially at Tikipunga Medical Centre and now at Primecare Medical Centre, where he is also one of the founding directors.

He enjoys the challenge of helping people with their medical issues and acute medical care, and has a particular interest in family medicine. He is also one of the North Haven Hospice doctors.

Dr Beris Ford

Beris qualified in 1968 with an MBChB from Otago, then gained a Diploma in Obstetrics in 1971. He followed this with Membership of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 1976, and a Fellowship for the RNZCGP in 1995. Beris gained his Diploma in Palliative Medicine 1999 from Cardiff.

Beris' interests are in the areas of men's health, health of the older person, and palliative medicine.

Dr Alice Ohnmar

Dr Alice Ohnmar joined the general practice at Primecare in 2001, after five years' experience at Whangarei Hospital, mainly in paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and the Accident & Emergency Department. She also works part time as Medical Officer of Special Scale (MOSS) at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Whangarei Hospital.

Alice completed the Advanced Vocational Training Programme by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2001.

She has a wide range of interests within general practice, especially paediatrics, women's health and geriatrics.

Dr Nadine Von Enckevort

Nadine qualified in Germany in 1989, and worked for four years at Whangarei Hospital. She then gained her New Zealand qualifications and became a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2000.

Prior to coming to New Zealand, she worked as a GP and in paediatrics in Germany, where she also gained specialist qualification as a family physician.

Nadine started work at Primecare in 1998, and now works part time so that she can take an active part in raising her two small children. She is especially interested in paediatrics, women's health and care of elderly people, and is practicing holistic and preventative medicine.
